Preakness Crab Derby
Most everyone is familiar with the Preakness Stakes, one of the jewels in the Triple Crown of horse racing. Slightly less famous is the Preakness Crab Derby. It takes place during the week leading up to the horse race. Local celebrities jockey crabs down a course for a cash prize to be donated to their favorite charity. When in town for the Preakness Stakes, going to Lexington Market for the Crab Derby is a fun itinerary addition.

Showcase of Nations Ethnic Festivals
It's a summer-long celebration of different cultures. There's the Greek Festival, Latino Fest, African American Festival, Caribbean Carnival Festival, International Festival, Ukrainian Festival, and Russian Festival. Each event takes place on a different weekend, and features food and cultural fun from each group when it's their turn. The way each different culture is represented by a part of the festival allows for a deeper appreciation.

Grand Prix of Baltimore
It only started in 2011, but drew 150,000 fans in its first year. That was enough to guarantee a permanent spot on the calendar. It happens over Labor Day Weekend and brings open wheel grand prix racing to the streets of Baltimore.

Baltimore Comic-Con
It began in a hotel, but rapidly grew in stature and now is held in the Baltimore Convention Center. It's not big enough yet to rival the Comic-Con in San Diego for the title of the biggest in North America, but Baltimore Comic-Con is becoming a major draw. Top artists now have the show on their schedule. There are costume contests, lectures, and great exhibitions. See your favorite comic book authors or their characters represented. Get your inner geek on.

Baltimore Book Festival
With over 100 exhibitors and booksellers and hundreds of authors, it's one of the biggest celebrations of literature in the Atlantic States. See celebrity chef authors give cooking demonstrations, take in walking tours and workshops. Events for children include readings of children's books and street theater. There are multiple food and drink vendors as well.

New Year's Eve at Inner Harbor
Baltimore does New Year's Eve with flair. See the biggest fireworks show in the region over the Inner Harbor to ring out the old year. There's live music before, and a parade. It's a New Year's party that's been around for decades.
